The Annoyance Of Underwear That Ride Up
This is a personal vent and sudden appreciation for underwear that fit well. I was recently on vacation to Bangkok, Thailand during its record setting heat wave.
Packing my bags for short trip so didn't put too much effort into it. Just brought whatever looked good for hot weather. A nice pair of Silktouch Shorts with a Cool Cotton Tee would work fine.
Given that Tani makes great Men's underwear I wasn't too worried about it so just picked whatever.
Once there, I started doing the tourist thing, involving a lot of walking and, of course, a lot of sweating. I noticed that almost every few steps, I had a wedgie. At first, I didn't even recognize the issue because it rarely happens, but then I realized it was the underwear. When I got back to the hotel, I discovered that I had picked up a pair of my dad's underwear, which were too large for me and rode up my thighs all day long. It basically ruined the day for me because I was so uncomfortable.
Why does my underwear ride up my legs?
SIZING
If you pick the right size, it's not going to ride up. Boxers aren't rocket science, and they've been around for a long time. With classic shapes and designs, as long as you pick the right size, you'll be fine.
STYLE
If you wear loose-fitting pants or shorts, be sure to choose fitted styles such as boxer briefs. If you wear a loose fit like boxer shorts, they're going to bunch up and ride up because there's too much room. Alternatively, you can avoid this problem by going with briefs instead of boxers, but that's a whole other story.
What underwear is best for not riding up?
MATERIAL
The smoother the fabric is the less friction it has to work with up your leg. The more breathable and quick-dry it is the better for the same reasons.

DESIGN
Again, boxer briefs and trunks that are fitted works best.
DETAILS
If you wear loose clothing, traditional sewing lines with elastics can help keep the leg hole from riding up. If you wear fitted clothing than riding up issue isn't as big of a problem and you can try seamless or bonded underwear which feel the most comfortable.
